Achievement
SAN FRANCISCO, November 7, 2009, MARSEC Corp. (Maritime
Safety & Security) has been selected for the 2009 Best
of Business Award in the Planning consultant category by
the Small Business Commerce Association (SBCA)
The Small Business Commerce Association (SBCA) is pleased
to announce that Maritime Safety & Security has been
selected for the 2009 Best of Business Award in the
Planning consultant category.
The SBCA 2009 Award Program recognizes the top 5% of small
businesses throughout the country. Using statistical
research and consumer feedback, the SBCA identifies
companies that we believe have demonstrated what makes
small businesses a vital part of the American economy. The
selection committee chooses the award winners from nominees
based off statistical research and also information taken
from monthly surveys administered by the SBCA, a review of
consumer rankings, and other consumer reports. Award
winners are a valuable asset to their community and
exemplify what makes small businesses great.

Refresher course approved!
MARSEC Corp. has recently received a
Course Approval Certificate from DNV on behalf of the Coast
Guard for Vessel Security Officer Refresher Course and
accepting applications from students. Persons meeting the
criteria in 33 CFR 104.215(d)(4)(i)(A) and (B) may
successfully complete a Coast Guard accepted refresher
course no later than July 1, 2009 , to fulfill the Coast
Guard VSO course requirements. (same as for VSO course).
Prerequisite as follows: Persons must have prior to May 20,
2008 1) At least 6 months experience during the preceding
three years; or 2) Successfully completed a VSO course that
was not approved by the Maritime Administration (MARAD) on
behalf of the Coast Guard.
To be eligible to take a refresher course, a person must
present to the course provider documentary evidence that he
or she meets the criteria listed above.

Special News!
MARSEC experienced notable successes in obtaining grant
awards for customers under the U.S. Department of Homeland
Security’s Port Security Grant Program and was successful
in acquiring approvals to re-designate facility secure
areas for TWIC purposes at many qualified waterfront
facilities.

York (DNV) Certificate of Approval for its Security Officer
Training Course, on behalf of the United States Coast Guard
National Maritime Center (NMC) and the United States
Maritime Administration (MARAD).
MARSEC
Corporation has enhanced its VSO/FSO/CSO training to
include the new rules for the Transportation Workers
Identification Credential (TWIC) and guidance on defensive
measures to help protect against acts of piracy.. In
addition to familiarization with the maritime security
regulations contained in 33 CFR Subchapter H (101, 104
& 105), persons taking the VSO/FSO/CSO are trained on
TWIC requirements, anti-piracy advisories, and are shown
how significant costs potentially associated with
compliance with these new rules can best be limited. Class
attendees will receive course manuals along with a CD-ROM
packed with helpful references, which are useful for
training your personnel with security duties.
